Founded in 1907 with the original mission of serving ''those who are dependent through no fault of their own'', the Catherine Horstmann Home has shifted the focus of their mission only once. Initially the Home provided transitional shelter and training in basic daily living skills to girls between the ages of eleven and eighteen. In 1969 the mission changed to providing employed women with MR/DD transitional shelter and training of basic daily living skills. The ultimate goal of the program is ''graduation'' to independent or assisted living.
