HortWorks, founded in February of 2001 and using the principles of therapeutic gardening, has grown out of the needs of economically disadvantaged people of all ages, ability, and culture to find greater meaning and independence in their lives. Using the special connection among plants and people, our programs have yielded outcomes such as increased physical activity, better mental health, and safer, stronger communities. Our staff and many volunteers work toward this aim, through programs of community gardens, individual healing gardens, floriculture ventures, and service-learning opportunities. We are based in the Research Triangle Park region of North Carolina, with sites across the state.
