The house of ruth, inc. is a non-profit organization that serves eight counties in Alabama.
These counties are Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike.
In-Shelter Services:
- 24 hour crisis hotline: 1-800-650-6522 or in the Dothan calling area: 334-793-2232
- Safe shelter with a bed capacity of 17 bed spaces, however no one is ever turned away due to a lack of bed space
- Information on the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Individual and group supportive counseling
- Self-help and life skills educational programs
- Case planning and case management
- Information and referral to existing community agencies
- Assistance in filing Alabama Crime Victims Compensation and follow-up application
- Advocacy including court and hospital accompaniment
- Basic necessities; food, clothing, personal hygiene supplies, etc
- Transportation to and from work in the Dothan area and appointments
- Tutorial Services for children
- Children's Group (group counseling for children - 4 hours weekly)
- Legal information and advocacy
- Support group for battered/formerly battered women
- Support group for survivors of sexual assault
