The house of ruth, inc. is a non-profit organization that serves eight counties in Alabama.

These counties are Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike.

In-Shelter Services:   

  • 24 hour crisis hotline: 1-800-650-6522 or in the Dothan calling area: 334-793-2232   
  • Safe shelter with a bed capacity of 17 bed spaces, however no one is ever turned away due to a lack of bed space   
  • Information on the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault   
  • Individual and group supportive counseling   
  • Self-help and life skills educational programs   
  • Case planning and case management   
  • Information and referral to existing community agencies   
  • Assistance in filing Alabama Crime Victims Compensation and follow-up application   
  • Advocacy including court and hospital accompaniment   
  • Basic necessities; food, clothing, personal hygiene supplies, etc   
  • Transportation to and from work in the Dothan area and appointments   
  • Tutorial Services for children   
  • Children's Group (group counseling for children - 4 hours weekly)   
  • Legal information and advocacy   
  • Support group for battered/formerly battered women   
  • Support group for survivors of sexual assault
